Tata Electronics surpasses Foxconn in India workforce, becomes Apple’s largest manufacturing partner

Tata Electronics has significantly expanded its manufacturing operations in India, growing its workforce to around 75,000 employees. With this expansion, the company has overtaken Foxconn in terms of employee strength in the country, making it the largest manufacturing partner for Apple in India.
The company’s headcount has increased sharply from approximately 15,000 employees in 2023. A key driver of this growth has been its large manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, which has scaled up production to meet rising global demand for iPhones. The expansion has also been supported by the integration of employees and operations from previously acquired Pegatron and Wistron facilities, further strengthening Tata Electronics’ manufacturing footprint.
Established in 2020, Tata Electronics’ rapid growth reflects its strategic focus on expanding production capacity and aligning with Apple’s stringent global manufacturing and quality standards. Industry analysts note that this milestone underscores the increasing capability of Indian firms in the electronics manufacturing services sector, which has long been dominated by East Asian players.
While Tata Electronics currently leads in workforce size, Foxconn is expected to regain a strong position once its upcoming facility in Devanahalli becomes fully operational later this year.
The expansion also comes at a time when India is playing a growing role in Apple’s global supply chain. Policy support such as production-linked incentive schemes, along with rising localisation and availability of skilled labour, has contributed to accelerating manufacturing growth in the sector. Going forward, Tata Electronics is expected to focus on strengthening its supply chain capabilities and expanding into higher-value areas such as semiconductor assembly and advanced packaging.
