IT Employee Body Seeks POSH Audit After Nashik Workplace Complaints

An IT employee association has urged the Central government to investigate workplace safety practices at a Nashik-based technology firm following complaints raised by women employees. Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) has written to Mansukh Mandaviya, calling for a detailed audit of the company’s compliance with the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act.
The request follows reports that multiple employees approached law enforcement authorities with allegations including sexual harassment and coercion. NITES has sought a comprehensive review of complaints filed over several years, including those that were resolved, remain pending, or were dismissed. The organisation has also called for scrutiny of how the company’s human resources teams and senior leadership handled such cases.
In its communication, NITES raised concerns about the potential suppression of complaints. It has requested authorities to examine whether employees were discouraged from reporting incidents or faced retaliation after doing so. The body has also recommended a broader audit of POSH compliance across IT firms operating in Maharashtra.
The company at the centre of the allegations has stated that it follows a zero-tolerance approach to harassment and that action was taken once the concerns were raised. According to the company, employees under investigation have been suspended while internal inquiries are ongoing.
NITES has further recommended a review of internal grievance mechanisms, including the functioning of complaint committees. It has also highlighted the need to assess workplace conditions such as long working hours and shift structures, and their potential impact on employee wellbeing.
The organisation has urged the government to introduce periodic compliance audits and mandatory reporting requirements for IT companies to strengthen accountability and workplace safety standards.
