Coal India Introduces Standardised Employee Dress Code Across Operations

Coal India has introduced a new workplace uniform policy aimed at creating a consistent and professional appearance across its operations. The revised guidelines, effective from May, require employees to follow a defined dress code and maintain a minimum number of uniform sets each year.
Under the new policy, employees must purchase at least three sets of uniforms annually. The initiative marks a transition from relatively informal workplace attire to a more structured dress framework with clearly defined expectations.
For male employees, the prescribed uniform consists of a grey formal shirt paired with black trousers across all roles and locations. The company said the standardisation is intended to create a uniform identity across its workforce.
Female employees have been given multiple attire options while following the approved colour scheme. They may choose from formal shirts with trousers, traditional kurta sets, or sarees in combinations of grey, maroon, and black. The policy aims to balance workplace consistency with comfort and cultural preferences.
The company introduced the new dress code to strengthen workplace discipline, improve professional presentation, and reinforce organisational identity across its subsidiaries and regional operations.
Uniform-based workplace policies are commonly adopted by large public-sector organisations to encourage cohesion and maintain a shared institutional image. With the rollout of the revised guidelines, Coal India seeks to establish a unified visual standard across its workforce while allowing limited flexibility in attire choices for women employees.
