Renault Plans Up to 3,000 Job Cuts Globally Under ‘Arrow’ Cost-Saving Initiative

French automaker Renault is planning to reduce around 3,000 positions worldwide through a voluntary redundancy program, targeting roles in support functions such as human resources, finance, and marketing. The move is part of the company’s cost-saving initiative, the ‘Arrow’ plan, which aims to cut roughly 15% of these positions.
The reductions are expected to be concentrated at Renault’s headquarters in Boulogne-Billancourt, near Paris, with additional cuts at other international locations. Final decisions are expected by the end of the year, following consultations with unions and employee representatives.
Renault has confirmed that cost-cutting measures are under review but stressed that no final figures have been approved. The company cited uncertainties in the automotive market, intense competition, and the need to optimise fixed costs and simplify operations.
At the end of 2024, Renault employed nearly 99,000 people globally, meaning the proposed cuts would represent about three percent of its workforce. The announcement follows a net loss of €11.2 billion in the first half of 2025, primarily due to a €9.3 billion write-down on its investment in Nissan.
The restructuring coincides with a recent leadership change, with Francois Provost appointed CEO in July. Renault’s plan reflects wider pressures on European automakers, including slowing EV demand, competition from Chinese manufacturers, and potential US tariffs.
