Nestlé to reportedly cut 16,000 jobs globally amid automation and restructuring plans

Switzerland: Global food and beverage giant Nestlé is reportedly undergoing a major transformation aimed at improving operational efficiency and reducing costs — a move that could impact around 16,000 jobs worldwide.
According to media reports, the company plans to reduce its global workforce by about 6 per cent over the next two years. The reported cuts include approximately 12,000 white-collar roles and around 4,000 positions in manufacturing and supply chain operations.
Sources indicate that automation and digitalisation are key factors driving this restructuring effort. Nestlé is said to be focusing on simplifying its organisational structure and leveraging automation to streamline internal processes and enhance productivity.
Philipp Navratil, CEO of Nestlé, has reportedly described this as part of a broader transformation initiative — one that aligns with the company’s long-term strategy to evolve through simplification and technological integration.
Nestlé’s latest financial report showed a 1.9 per cent year-on-year decline in sales, prompting efforts to improve efficiency and control operational costs. While the company has not released detailed information about the specific regions or departments to be affected, each market is expected to prepare its own implementation plan for the restructuring.
In India, Nestlé’s local arm had earlier reported a 3.8 per cent reduction in its permanent employee count for the financial year ending 2024–25. The company attributed this to its ongoing efforts to expand capacity and enhance operational capabilities through increased capital expenditure.
As Nestlé continues to adapt to technological advancements and changing market conditions, the balance between automation and employment remains a key area of focus for global corporations across industries.
