
NITES Calls for Urgent Reforms to Safeguard Tech Employees Amid AI Disruptions
he Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) has called for immediate policy intervention to protect workers as artificial intelligence continues to transform the technology sector. The organisation raised concerns over rising job losses and evolving role requirements, urging a more balanced and responsible approach to workforce transition.
Amid increasing reports of layoffs across companies, NITES stressed that workforce reduction should not become the default response to automation. Instead, it advocated for a stronger emphasis on reskilling and redeployment, highlighting that investments in AI must be matched with investments in human capital.
The body also pointed to a growing disconnect between company performance and employee security. While organisations are leveraging advanced technologies to improve efficiency, the burden of these changes is falling disproportionately on employees, many of whom face uncertainty about their job stability.
As part of its recommendations, NITES has urged the introduction of stronger labour safeguards within the tech industry. These include clearer guidelines on notice periods, transparent severance policies, and increased accountability from employers during restructuring processes.
The appeal comes at a time when rapid technological advancements are redefining job roles and skill expectations. Employees are under increasing pressure to adapt, often without sufficient institutional support.
This development underscores a broader challenge within the tech ecosystem. As innovation accelerates, existing labour frameworks are struggling to keep pace, prompting renewed calls for policies that better align technological growth with workforce protection.
