Epson launches programme to strengthen robotics training for engineering students in India
Epson has introduced a new programme aimed at enhancing robotics education for engineering students in India by providing practical, industry-oriented training alongside classroom learning. The initiative is designed to bridge the gap between academic curricula and the skill requirements of modern manufacturing.
Siva Kumar, senior general manager, sales and marketing, Epson India, said the company aims to equip upcoming engineers with the tools and exposure needed to succeed in an evolving industrial landscape. He noted that partnerships with academic institutions and the internship initiative are intended to help students gain confidence through hands-on experience.
Epson expects more than 100 students to benefit from the programme in FY25 as it expands its industry–academia collaborations across the country.
The initiative includes setting up robotics laboratories in leading engineering colleges and offering internships at the Epson Solution Centre in Bengaluru. The company has already partnered with Ramaiah Institute of Technology (MSRIT) in Bengaluru, where an Epson Robotics Lab has been established, and with Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) in Chennai, where a similar facility will soon be set up.
These labs are equipped with Epson’s SCARA and 6-axis robots, used across applications such as assembly, material handling, packaging and inspection. The systems are designed to offer high precision and speed while reducing operational costs.
As part of the rollout, Epson conducted a 19-day internship for its first cohort of 22 students from four engineering institutes. The programme provided hands-on training with real-world robotics systems and exposure to manufacturing environments at the Bengaluru Solution Centre.
