Accenture Restructures Workforce, Focuses on AI and Automation

Accenture is undergoing a significant restructuring, with a stronger emphasis on artificial intelligence (AI) and automation. Reports indicate that the Dublin-based consultancy has reduced its workforce by approximately 11,000 employees over the past three months and may continue to adjust headcount in the coming months.
The company has reportedly allocated around ₹7,669 crore for the restructuring initiative, which includes reskilling programs for employees to adapt to emerging technologies. While reskilling is a priority, not all employees are expected to be included, leading to further reductions in workforce.
By the end of August 2025, Accenture’s global workforce stood at approximately 7.79 lakh employees, down from around 7.91 lakh in May 2025. The firm reportedly spent about $615 million on severance packages in the last quarter and has set aside around $250 million for the current quarter. The restructuring is expected to result in overall cost savings of at least $1 billion.
Accenture currently employs around 77,000 AI and data professionals, a significant increase from about 38,500 in 2023. The company’s move reflects growing client demand for AI-driven solutions that enhance speed and efficiency.
Employees at Accenture and across the consulting sector are increasingly expected to adapt to new technologies as part of ongoing workforce transformations.
